The Candidate Experience at Change.org

  • The team here reviews the background of all candidates who apply, are referred or who we find via sourcing. We understand that a resume is not the end all be all! We prioritize candidates who have demonstrated the skills and abilities that align with the skills we need for our open roles.

  • All the interviews we conduct-from initial screens to onsites-are structured. This means that we outlined our areas of evaluation and questions in advance to ensure each candidate is measured in an equitable manner. You’ll find that our interviews tend to be pretty in-depth and thorough. We are looking for candidates who are thoughtful, clear and direct with their answers and who can demonstrate an understanding of our mission and our product as well as having the core capabilities needed for success in the role.

  • You can (and should) read more about our compensation philosophy below. In addition to how we handle compensation, we’ll also make it a point to share feedback at the time of our offer and make sure your questions are answered. We want to ensure you like us as much as we like you!

Talent Philosophy

Our internal hiring system is designed to work with efficiency, engage transparently with our team and candidates, and help us scale with intention. Those actions, in turn, will help further our mission and keep Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the forefront of our operations.

Our Operating Principles

What It’s Like to Work Here

We are Mission-Driven

Change.org is a certified Public Benefit Corporation. Our mission - to empower people everywhere to create the change they wish to see - is at the center of all that we do.

Our mission - to empower people everywhere to create the change they want to see - is the tie that binds Change.org staff. It is at the core of every action we take and decision we make. We empower by building tools that enable people's power to take root and grow. We ensure access to these tools globally and stay focused on expanding the reach of Change.org users over time. We offer an open platform, where (within the bounds of our community guidelines) people from all different backgrounds can champion the change they want to see in their communities, countries, and our global society.

We are Committed to Inclusion

Change.org’s goal is for our organization to reflect the beautiful and diverse world we inhabit.

Change.org is committed to building a multicultural organization that contributes to a more equitable world. Our work to embed and advance diversity, equity and inclusion is a foundational building block in enabling and driving the organization's mission. We are constantly questioning systems that lead to oppression and working to disrupt them within our policies and practices. We see our work in fostering inclusivity as a constant process to improve ourselves, the places we work, and the world around us so that everyone can thrive. Here’s a look inside some of our efforts:

  • Robust onboarding experience rooted in fostering connection and inclusion

  • Employee Resource Groups (for cisgender women, transgender/non-binary, people of Black, Asian, Pacific Islander and Latinx heritage on our staff)

  • Racial equity and transgender inclusion training sessions for all staff

  • Leadership development for People of Color and transgender/non-binary staff

  • Pay equity on the basis of gender identity

Today, our team is approximately 57% cisgender women, 40% People of Color and 26% non-native English speakers, as an example. In order to achieve effective representation, we work to address under-representation and mitigate bias in our hiring processes. We’re also thoughtfully creating programs, practices and processes that enable everyone to live up to their potential, at every level, in every line of work and whoever they are.

We Encourage Balance

We trust everyone at Change.org to manage their time in the way that best suits their work and personal lives.

As a company, we foster healthy work/life balance, which means our working arrangements are flexible and we do not mind if you occasionally need to take a day or two to work from home. All full-time employees receive unlimited PTO. We encourage people to use it and do not expect anyone to be on call or answering emails while taking PTO.

Our focus on work/life balance makes Change.org a great place for people with children, too. As an exceptional added benefit, both moms and dads get 18 weeks paid parental leave when a baby joins the family. You’ll often see special appearances of our beloved Change.org kids (and pets!) popping into the frame on video calls when meetings occur from home.

How We Compensate People Ethically

Fighting systemic inequality can be difficult but it's imperative for companies to take responsibility for their part in the problem, especially when it comes to compensation. Learn how we pay our people ethically and equitably at Change.org.
